In the past Conservatives have attacked the idea of government handouts. This has usually been directed toward individuals on welfare that could work, and the idea of throwing money at government programs that don’t work. Now we seem to be expanding our idea of government handouts to the business world as well. Oh to be sure, there has always been corporate welfare in the form of subsidies to sugar farmers, corn farmers, etc. But now we have entered a grand new era of government to business welfare as every major business sector sees the free cash flowing from Washington, and are looking to collect some it. First it was the banks, now it’s the traditional car makers; soon you will be able to add electric car makers to the list as well. And let’s not forget AIG insurance company, and American Express looking for cash as well. It’s like the whole mentality of picking up your bootstraps has been lost on corporate America. At this rate, Uncle Sam will be owners of large portions of our business structure. Forget about a take over of American healthcare for socialized medicine. That’s peanuts next to what we are seeing before our eyes right now.
